sometimes it's better to travel than to arrive. let the journey begin.

a dose of reality

You know that the end of a dream is near when an all too loud and familiar alarm from reality wakes you from your slumber.  Just the same, my parent’s visit to Singapore served as a gentler reminder that this fantastic dream-like journey of mine is nearing an end as well.

There’s no denying that seeing the familiar bounce in my parents’ gait as they pushed through Changi airport’s baggage claim brought a huge smile to my face.  But it also signaled the beginning of the end, the prelude to one long finale that marks my last days in this alternate Asian universe of mine.

The first night my parents arrived, we stayed up all night talking, partially because of their jet lag but also because there was just so much to catch up on.  Along with their 5 pieces of luggage, they brought back numerous stories about life back home: the usual gossip, chatter, fruits of the season, and shopping deals at the mall.  It was wonderful to be transported back to that world - for absence does indeed make the heart grow fonder - but it was yet another reminder that the life I had grown accustomed to in Southeast Asia was coming to an end… and all that I had known before, my usual lifestyle in America, would soon resume.

Just some thoughts floating in my mind-

I’m off to Cambodia & Thailand in 3 hours!  Leaving the computer behind in Singapore.  Hoping to just relax, think, and enjoy this month of traveling sans distractions.

I will never forget this place.

“A traveler complained of cockroaches in a hotel. This is what the hotelier had to say in response to their review:

I think your comments unkind. Cockroaches are prehistoric creatures and can survive atomic bombs and weapons of mass destruction!”

An interview with my roommate, Alice, about the digital media scene in Taiwan.  This was recorded as a school assignment for my Digital Media Across Asia class at SMU, but I had much fun editing and recording and re-recording and re-re-recording the interview multiple times.  There should be a blooper section.

Here’s a shameful plug for the wiki my class is working on:
